Date: April 2013
Destination: Sydney to Bangkok, Thailand return
Aircraft: Boeing B747-400
Flying time: Sydney-Bangkok 9hrs 20mins | Bangkok-Sydney 9hrs
Our flight out of Sydney was due to take off at 10am but had been delayed by nearly an hour due to coming in late. Once on board we were welcomed with friendly Sawadee’s and handed a cup of water after taking our seats.
Our plane had been recently refurbished and looked gorgeous with its brightly coloured pink and purple seats. The flight appeared quite full.
I commenced watching the movie “This is 40” before warm disposable towels were handed out just prior to lunch being served. Not all airlines do this and I really appreciate being able to clean your hands properly before eating.
Unfortunately they had run out of the Chicken Pa-naeng Curry so we settled for the Roasted Perch with Mustard and Tarragon, Penne Pasta, Tomato Sauce and Zucchini which came with a lovely diced crab salad, roll, butter, cheese and biscuits, carrot cake and drinks including tea or coffee. The meal was tasty and filling. I was then able to get in two more movies ,”I give it a Year” and “Anna Karenina” before our next meal was served.
This was Stir-fried Shanghai Noodles with Prawn and Tofu with vegetables, fruit salad, and a Snowy Mountains chocolate cookie. It was not long after this the plane started its descent. The Bangkok Airport was huge and we had quite a walk to our gate where we hopped onto a bus which took us to our next flight to Krabi.
Pros:
The plane being recently renovated felt new and it’s colour scheme was bright and colourful
Friendly staff
Tasty food
Disposable towels handed out prior to meals
Cons:
The flight was delayed
By the time we were served the airline had run out of the Thai meal selection that we would have preferred
In Summary: I wouldn’t hesitate in flying Thai Airways again. I loved the decor of the plane and the food and service were great too.
Destination: Bangkok to Krabi , Thailand
Airline: Thai Smile (subsidiary of Thai Airways)
Aircraft: A330-300
Flying time: 1:20
Our flight was to depart at 1715 local time (2015 our time) so there was no time to spend looking around the Bangkok airport. The plane was large, new and very empty with entire rows of seats left vacant. We were given a snack of white bread finger sandwiches consisting of three different fillings – cheese, tuna and ham along with a drink of juice. Not very Indonesian but tasty none the less.
It did not take long before we reached Krabi airport. After three flights we were finally here and now just needed to catch a taxi to our hotel.
Pros:
A nearly empty flight meant we could stretch out and be comfortable
New plane
Cons:
Might have been good for the snack to have been a bit more Thai
In Summary: I would definitely fly with this airline again. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
