The Salisbury YMCA, Kowloon, Hong Kong Accommodation review – January 2013

YMCA Salisbury Hong Kong

I have to start by saying this place is not what I expected from a YMCA. The foyer can be mistaken for that of a typical five star resort and the commanding views of the harbour and excellent proximity to the hustle and bustle of the city make this place worthwhile.

We started out with the four of us sharing a dormitory for a week which contained four bunk beds.  The beds were hard compared to what we were used to and the room small but we had our own bathroom and spent very little time in our room anyway.  Free internet was available in all rooms.

The place had a 25m swimming pool which meant my daughter who was a competitive swimmer at the time could still get some training in which she did with the Hong Kong YMCA swim club that trained there.   We then moved to a harbour view executive suite at the Salisbury which had floor to ceiling windows circling the apartment to give 180 degree views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.  The famous Peninsula Hotel is located just next door and if staying there is outside your budget, you might just have to settle for high tea instead.

Pros

  • Superb location
  • Caters to larger families
  • Great assortment of facilities
  • Million dollar views in the Harbour View Suites
  • Free internet

Cons

  • Beds in the dorms are hard
  • Breakfast is expensive

Score: 4.8/5

In Summary: I recommend this place to travellers that either are willing to pay a bit more for an amazing and unforgettable view or want to be centrally located.
