We wanted a place close to the city where we could walk to the shops, eateries, attractions and train station whilst keeping the cost down. We also wanted something not too old and which received good reviews. Oaks Southbank appeared to fit the bill nicely.

Location
Oaks Southbank is in walking distance to Melbourne’s CBD, stacks of cafe’s, food courts and restaurants, the Flinders Street Station and a number of tourist attractions such as the National Gallery of Victoria, Eureka Tower, Federation Square, Yarra River and Crown casino.
Parking
Self parking is available on-site in a secure underground carpark accessed from Fawkner Street. There are size restrictions on the vehicles as a car lift cannot accommodate vehicles that are too long or too high. We had hired an 8 seater van which was over 5 metres long so had to park at the nearby Wrap Hotel underground carpark instead. Cost of parking is $30 a night.
WiFi
30 minutes of Complimentary in room WiFi is available for up to three devices. As we had booked through Qantas Hotels we received an upgrade special of unlimited WiFi access. We weren’t given this on our first night but the staff happily fixed it for us the next morning when we let them know.

Summary
For a new apartment so centrally located and well priced, we thought Oaks Southbank was a great find. The staff were friendly and the apartment offered us everything we needed. There were lots of things to do and see in walking distance and public transport was close by. Parking was expensive and the apartments weren’t serviced but for what we paid we were happy with our choice.
