Deciding where to go for your next holiday or vacation can be exciting but also a bit daunting. With so many destinations to choose from, you can make the decision easier by considering the following:
- The length of your time away – do you only have a week’s leave saved up or are you retired and able to stay away longer? This will determine how far you can travel. You wouldn’t travel from Australia to Europe if you only had a week. So the more time you have for your holiday, the further you can go.
- Your budget – have you allowed $2 000 for your holiday or $20 000? Some places are more expensive than others and your budget will determine not only the places you can go but the type of accommodation you stay in.
- Whether to travel locally or go overseas – one year we planned to visit the Northern Territory from within our own country and ended up going to Fiji instead because it was cheaper. So travelling overseas isn’t necessarily the more expensive option.
- Who you are travelling with – a family holiday will be quite a different holiday to travelling as a couple. If travelling as a family, make sure there is something they will all enjoy.
- The time of year you are travelling – if you are after a sunny beach holiday then you would not choose a destination where it will be the wet season when you get there.
- The type of holiday you are after – do you want an adventure holiday or is a relaxing one more for you? Perhaps you would like a bit of both. If you really enjoy bush walking then you may want to look out for places that are well known for their scenic walks. If you want to swim in the ocean then you will want somewhere warm and on the coast.
- Specials and discounts on offer – whilst in Sydney we came across a special on fares to Hong Kong. We hadn’t planned on making this our next holiday destination but the special seemed too good to miss. BTW we loved Hong Kong! So a great discount on flights or accommodation could determine where you take your next holiday.
