What you wear on the plane will determine how comfortable your flight is. Wool is the most suitable material to wear as it is breathable. It keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Wool does not get smelly unlike other fibres including synthetics and even cotton. Australian Marino wool is also stain resistant, anti wrinkle, fire resistant and dries easily.
I always take along a Pashmina scarf. It can dress up an outfit, provide you with extra warmth when needed, be folded into a pillow on the plane, used to cover your shoulders when visiting temples or places where bare shoulders are not acceptable and is so light you hardly know it’s there.
Comfortable shoes are another important thing to have with you when flying. There is nothing worse than your feet swelling up because you have shoes that are too tight. And whilst strappy sandals may look nice, your feet can get cold on the plane. Shoes with high heels make walking around airports uncomfortable and when I know I have a long flight in front of me it feels good to walk around the airport before I’m strapped to my seat for hours. So my suggestion is either smart light weight runners or a pair of good looking flats. Short boots can work well too if the heels aren’t too high.
And also, don’t wear anything too restrictive like tight jeans as you will spend the whole flight being uncomfortable.
I wouldn’t suggest wearing shorts regardless of the climate you’re flying out of or into as aeroplanes are notorious for being quite cool and unless you’re flying business class the blankets don’t always keep you warm.
One final thing to be aware of is NOT to wear too much perfume if any or other heavily scented toiletries. Some studies suggest as many as 30 percent of people find scented products irritating. Now that’s a lot of people who you will offend in a confined aircraft. Symptoms can range from sneezing and feeling nauseous to having a full on asthma attack. So please be considerate of others and save the perfumes for another time when those around you can leave if they need to.
